Chona Benavidez

December 8, 1939 — February 21, 2021

Van Horn

Concepcion “Chona” Benavidez a lifelong resident of Van Horn, Texas closed her eyes to her earthly home on Sunday, February 21st, 2021 in El Paso, Texas with the love of Jesus Christ and her beloved family in her heart. Chona waw 81.

Chona was born on December 8th, 1939 in Van Horn, Texas to Natividad Navarette and Maria Luz (Molina) Navarette. She met and married the loved of her life Nichols Benavidez. She so enjoyed taking care of her husband and together they raised four wonderful children.

Funeral Services for Chona will be held on Friday, February 26th, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Van Horn First Baptist Church with Pastor Rubn Arazate officiating. Burial will follow at the Van Horn Cemetery.

Those honoring the life of Chona by serving as pallbearers are Alfonso Gonzales, Alfonso Baca, Nick Benavidez, Gil Benavidez, Sammy Baca, Nuney Gonzales, Joseph Cordero and Eric Benavidez.

A special honor of serving as Honorary Pallbearer has been bestowed up Chona's great grandson King Baca.

Chona, was truly dedicated to her Blessed Lord and Savior. She would be in private prayer daily as well as reading the true word from her Bible. Being a faithful servant of God, Chona would never go by that Chona would evangelize to those that she met to win their soul and heart for The Lord.

Chona enjoyed many hobbies many which were made by her being Blessed by her Lord with prayers and love such as crocheting, teaching her family members how to crochet, making blankets for her family and friends.

Chona enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys as well as golf in which she could have been a golf commentator with the best of them. She enjoyed gardening as well as taking care of her blooming flowers as well as growing rosemary bushes. Chona would always have softly playing in the background Christian Music while doing puzzles, playing “Candy Crush” and doing her many crafts. Being an avid cook, Chona would cook for everyone who came to visit her, and no one ever left with an empty stomach. During lunch breaks for her family, Chona would always have a homecooked meal ready for them. She loved to make stuffing, tortillas and would always have a fresh cup of McDonald’s coffee every day.

Chona was preceded in death by her beloved husband Nicolas Benavidez, Sr.; her Mother Maria Luz Navarette and Father Natividad Navarette and one sister Estella Guerrero.

Those left to honor and cherish the memory of Chona are her sons Nick Benavidez, Jr. of Van Horn and Gil Benavidez of Van Horn; her daughters Deana Gonzales and husband Alfonso of Midland and Adie Baca and husband Poncho of Van Horn; her brothers Tomas Navarette of Garland and Natividad Navarette of Mineral Wells; her sisters Juana Martinez of Garland and Dee Licon of Hobbs, New Mexico as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and the lives that she won for her beloved Savior Jesus Christ.

Chona will truly be missed by all.
