Enrique "Henry" Carrasco

Van Horn

In Memory of Enrique “Henry” Martinez Carrasco

Born Thursday, July 22, 1943, in Saragosa, Texas, to Pedro and Josefa Carrasco.

Departed Sunday, January 10, 2021, at University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, virtually surrounded by his daughters Elizabeth Ann “Lisa” Gonzalez, Lisa’s spouse Cezar Gonzalez, Elaine Carrasco, Elaine’s spouse Hector Alviar, his former wife Sally Carrasco, his granddaughters Jacqueline Rios, Estella Rios, and Erica Reyna, and other immediate family members.

He was a resident of Van Horn, Texas since 1972 and will be laid to rest at the Van Horn Cemetery.

Two cardinals were seen in one of his daughter’s garden on January 11, 2021.   If you are lucky enough to spot a cardinal, you should smile to yourself as cardinals represent a messenger of love from heaven, loved ones who are watching over you. ... seeing a cardinal at your window usually means that someone who has passed on wants you to know they're thinking of you and looking out for you.

Through his 77 years of life, Henry operated many roles in life – dirt contractor, welder, rattlesnake terminator, lifeguard, waltz dancer, jokester, man of the country, husband for over 47 years – the proudest being a daddy who shared in raising two wonderful women as well as being the caretaker of Zoe, his dog.   He would say, “don’t borrow problems” and “I didn’t raise my girls to be quitters.”  Any man can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a daddy, and Henry was one of them.  Treasuring family and friendships, he loved making people laugh.   He put not only his family first, but also did for others in the community before himself.  Through thick and thin, in the hot and cold, he operated his backhoe tractor to bury those who died before him, watched Western movies on repeat, and was accompanied by Zoe, his dog, until the very end of his life.   He faced death with gusto and strength, without anger or fear, accepting as he taught the young that everything must eventually come to an end.   So, wipe your sorrows away, watch out for cardinals, and share with others your memories of the great and loving man he was.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa and Elaine, his two son-in-laws Cesar and Hector, his former wife Sally, four siblings, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
