Guadalupe Urias Valdez, 74, passed away peacefully in Van Horn, Texas on Sunday, December 17, 2023 following a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children, and wife of 53 years.
Lupe was born on January 9, 1949, in Porvenir, Texas. He was the sixth of seven children of José and Teodora (Urias) Valdez. After graduating from Van Horn High School and briefly attending college in Alpine, Texas, he married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Luna, and began his lifelong career in petroleum and chemical plant construction. His work saw him, and his family travel the USA, and to countries around the world including Australia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela, finally retiring in 2016. He treasured the moments and holidays when friends and family could all gather.
He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Valdez; his parents, José and Teodora (Urias) Valdez; his parents-in-law Heradio and Aurelia Luna; his brother Felipe Valdez and wife Martha; and his sister Soledad Melendez.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia; his son Andrew and wife Paula of San Antonio, Texas; his son Gabriel and wife Isabel of Ingleside, Texas; his son Dominic and wife Lara of Rosharon, Texas; his daughter Victoria and husband Tony of Van Horn, Texas; and daughter-in-law Lindsay of Pampa, Texas; grandchildren Abigail Nguyen and husband Richard of Houston, Texas; Andrew Valdez of Austin, Texas. Austin Valdez of San Antonio; Elizabeth Valdez and Alicia Valdez of Ingleside, Texas; Ezekiel Vidaña, Elyana Vidaña, Eli Vidaña of Van Horn, Texas; Matthew Rodela, Talía Valdez, Isaiah Valdez, and Christian Valdez of Pampa, Texas; Alyssa Luna of Van Horn, Texas; great-grandchildren Aurelia Nguyen, Rosalia Nguyen, Aislynn Farrar; sister Eduvijes (Vicki) Gonzales of Van Horn, Texas; brother José Valdez and wife Delia; brother Lorenzo Valdez and wife Olga; and brother Jesus Valdez and wife Rita of Houston, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law (Luna family), and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn, Texas.
