Hubbard Andrew “Speedy” Virdell Jr, age 71, of Sierra Blanca, Texas, passed away on December 19, 2025.
Speedy was born on August 12, 1954, in Fabens, Texas to Hubbard and Carmen Virdell. He devoted his life to Sierra Blanca, serving the community in various roles. Speedy was a long-time business owner, county commissioner, school board member, and a devoted public servant who worked tirelessly for the people of his community.
He was passionate about softball, liked to spend his free time at casinos, and was always accompanied by his cherished wife, Cherie. Speedy was best known for his deep love and dedication to his family and friends, from his wife and children to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Cherie Virdell; his sons, Chris Virdell, Eric Virdell his wife Missy, Jacob Virdell and his wife Savannah; his sister, Judy Virdell; niece, Tina Lujan; nephew, Troy Canaba; and his grandchildren: Andrew Virdell, Alex Virdell, Chance Virdell, Janelle Virdell, Joshua Pantoja, Jeremy Virdell, Kymberly Virdell, Kristianne Virdell, Bubba Virdell, Bryce Virdell, Garret Virdell, and Marissa Virdell. He was fortunate to have ten great-grandchildren: Davien Breeding, Princess Virdell, Zyren Virdell, Reighlynn Vasquez, Peyton Virdell, Grayson Vasquez, Jovian Concepcion, Silas Virdell, Ainsley Virdell, and Braxton Vasquez.
Speedy was predeceased by his parents, Hubbard, and Carmen Virdell, as well as his grandson Gage and great-grandson Zayden Virdell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17th, at 11:00 a.m. MST at the Catholic Hall in Sierra Blanca, a meal will follow the service.
Pallbearers serving are Jacob Virdell, Chris Virdell, Eric Virdell, and Troy Canaba.
