Manuel Melendez, Jr.

Manuel Melendez Jr. age 81, passed away peacefully in El Paso, Texas on June 4, 2023.  He was born in Lomas De Arena, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 11, 1941, to Manuel and Petra Melendez.  Manuel was a lifetime resident of Van Horn, Texas.  He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He had a passion for horses, cattle and being outdoors.  If he wasn’t at home you could find him with his friends telling them his wild tales.  Manuel enjoyed talking to strangers, knowing that by the end of the conversation he would have new friends.

Manuel is survived by his wife of 26 years, Juana Melendez, his sons Osbaldo Melendez, Omar Melendez, Urbano Melendez, his daughters Yolanda Ortega, America Sanchez, Lourdes Conley, Lisset Saenz, Valentina Gomez, Abigail Almaras and Idaly Melendez. He is preceded in death by his wife Soledad Melendez.  He was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at The Church of Christ on June 13, 2023, officiated by Pastor Juan Palacios.  The burial followed at the Van Horn Cemetery.

The Pallbearers serving were Robert Melendez, Christopher Melendez, Danial Sanchez, Monica Gonzalez, Alexander Ortega, Kenneth Conley, Marcus Ortega, and Adam Ortega.  Honorary Pallbearers were Nick Conley and Martin Melendez

The Funeral arrangements were in care of Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn, Texas.
