Marcos Anthony Esparza, 51, experienced cardiac arrest on August 09, 2024 at Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso Texas. His mom was in the same medical facility in critical condition at the time of his death and was not able to be with him.

He was born on March 21, 1973 in El Paso, Texas to Mary Esparza. He was raised by his mom and his grandfather, Manuel Esparza. He grew up and attended school in Van Horn until he graduated. He went on to attend Sul Ross University where he graduated with his BA in teaching. He taught in the Presidio school district for 20 years. He then transferred to Culberson County school District in Van Horn to take care of his mother who was in poor health. He taught elementary school, then went on to teach high school and was eventually assigned to teach special needs children; that was his forte. Marcos has a knack for bringing out the best in his students. He inspired his students. He could make them feel special with his patience, kindness, and love. One of his colleagues exclaimed to me, “to say he was an exemplary and kind human is an understatement”. Yes, his super power was kindness and understanding. The most important things to him were his students and his job. Teaching was very serious to him. He grew up without a father with only his grandpa, Manuel Esparza, to show him how to treat people. His grandpa did an excellent job. Next of course came his beloved Dallas Cowboys—diehard fan is putting it mildly! But after all is said and done, the most important person in his life was his mom, Mary. She was only 16 at the time of his birth, but rules and scruples about how to treat everyone were ingrained in him from the day he was born. He adored her and took good care of her as she suffered from poor health. He worked everyday and came home to love his mom and make sure she had everything she needed. A good example in every way of how to put everyone above himself.

He is survived by his beloved mom, Mary Esparza Licon, His aunts, Vangie Bender (Larry), Emma Vasquez, and Bertha Lara, his two uncles Manuel Esparza Jr., and Charles Bradley. His cousins, Dr. Lorraine Alvarado, Geneva Huff, Charles Bradley Jr., Tina Chaffin, Stephanie Bradley, Stephen Bradley, Mary Lara, Carol Abalos, Yolanda Lara and so many second cousins from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Marcos was preceded in death by his loving grandparents who were instrumental in raising him, Manuel and Socorro Esparza and his loving aunt, Gloria Bradley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Van Horn High School auditorium on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM with lunch served afterwards in the high school cafeteria.

Memorial donations may be made to his mom, Mary Licon, in care of the high school.
