Maria Quintana

Van Horn, Texas

On Saturday, April 18th, 2020, Maria de los Angeles Quintana, loving mother of six children, passed away at the age of 70.  Maria was born on September 28th, 1949 in Pilares, Chihuahua, Mexico to Domingo and Manuela Baeza.  Along with Maria, Domingo and Manuela had nine other children whose names are Manuel, Ernesto, Domingo, Enriquetta, Cirila, Maria de la Luz, Simona, Francisca, Guadalupe, and Celia.  In 1967, Maria married Guillermo and officially joined the Quintana family.  Together they raised four sons (Manuel, Julian, Andres, and David) and two daughters (Maria Dees and Sylvia Fierro).

To her family and friends, Maria was known as a hard worker.  She enjoyed keeping busy and working at Chuy’s restaurant prior to her retirement.  Additionally, she was known for being a dedicated and loving mother to her children and grandchildren.  The proof was in the fact that she took on the role of living with and caring for her son, Julian, for 20 years.  Regarding her personal interests, Maria loved gardening.  She most definitely was blessed with the green thumb of the family.  Not only that, but she was the chef of the family as well and loved to cook for everyone.  When she wasn’t gardening or cooking, she loved to listen to music, drink coffee, finish search word puzzles, and buy lottery tickets.  These are some of the qualities that she was know for, but most of all, she will be remembered as a women of strength and unconditional love.

Maria was preceded in death by her father, Domingo, her mother, Manuela, her brother, Manuel, and her two sisters, Simona and Guadalupe.  She is survived by her husband, Guillermo, her six children, Manuel, Maria, Sylvia, Julian, Andres, and David, her brothers, Ernesto and Domingo, her sisters, Enriquetta, Cirila, Maria de la Luz, Francisca, Celia, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.  A drive by viewing was held at the home of Maria, on Wednesday, April 22nd and the funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Van Horn Cemetery with Father Apolinar Samboni serving as Celebrant.  Due to the current pandemic facing out Nation, a Memorial Mass will be held sometime during the summer.
